Marcus Buckingham DVD Trombone Player Wanted |
|
Trombone Player Wanted deals with you and your work, but, as you'll see, it does so in an unexpected way. We chose not to depict actors role-playing "employees", or recreating typical work situations. Instead, the films tell the story of a ten year old boy who, although a competent trombonist, feels his strengths tugging him in a different direction. Back when you were young, your strengths were to be trusted. You might not have had a name for them, you might not even have labeled them "strengths", but when you were a child you listened to them. You knew which activities drew you back to them time and again. You knew which situations thrilled you and you sought them out. You felt your yearnings and your passions intensely, and they fueled your innocent belief that the world was going to wait for you, until one day you would emerge from your home or your school and you would get to make your unique mark on the world. How old were you when you still felt this? Eight? Ten? Trombone Player |

The odds are that you – like most people – are not playing to your strengths at work most of the time. Recent polls reveal that less than two out of ten people – the actual figure is 17% – say they spend the majority of their day "playing to their strengths". Even if you devote 25% of each day to all those things you don't like to do, or that bore you, or frustrate you – your non-negotiables – this still leave 75% of your time at work to fill with activities that call upon your strengths. And yet so few of us do. Our mission at The Marcus Buckingham Company is to dramatically increase this statistic, to "move the needle." Our profound hope is that this short-film series, Trombone Player Wanted, will accelerate this mission

Trombone Player Wanted consists of six films, each between 10-15 minutes long. We shot each of them on 35 millimeter film on location at the famed Frank Gehry designed Walt Disney Concert Hall in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, and at Hollywood High School. We made each film short because anything longer and we'd fail to grab your attention. We made them visually arresting because we want to keep your attention once we have it. We invite you to steal 15 minutes away from email and your cell phone and discover this stirring new medium.
